On a bright Cape Town morning, a group of children from Bonteheuwel stepped into another world - one filled with glowing kelp forests, graceful stingrays, and sharks that glide like shadows. Dressed in their signature yellow t-shirts, the Bontekids were ready for an unforgettable visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium.
For a few of these children, it was their first time seeing the ocean’s wonders up close. As they walked through tunnels of turquoise water and stood before towering glass tanks, their curiosity came alive. Fingers pointed, eyes widened, and questions poured out.
“Is that a real shark?” one child asked, awe in her voice as she leaned closer to the glass.
“They look like they’re flying,” said another, watching a school of fish swim in perfect rhythm.
The experience wasn’t just about observation—it was about connection. With every step, the children learned more about the ocean’s fragile ecosystems, the importance of conservation, and the beauty of diversity in nature. The Two Oceans Aquarium team welcomed Bontekids with warmth and care, making the visit both educational and deeply personal.
We extend heartfelt thanks to the Two Oceans Aquarium team, our volunteers, and the sponsors who made this visit possible. This is what empowerment looks like- a safe, joyful, and inspiring experience that will live on in each child’s memory.
As we return to our reading sessions on the stoep, the energy from this visit remains with us. It reminds us why we do what we do: to give children the tools, imagination, and confidence to dream bigger.
